About
Samira El Chami is a Lebanese artist residing on Darug Land / Western Sydney. She received her fine art training at the National Art School graduating in 2025. Samira continues to make sculptural ceramics from her home studio releasing collections online.
Her work combines the classical elegance of Arabic calligraphy with her contemporary and satirical nature through handbuilding sculptural and decorative clay pieces. It touches on themes of exaggerating the mundane, appreciating everyday objects which often go unnoticed, utilising her language and experiences to further establish a genuine connection with her pieces. She honors the slow life that might have flourished if not for colonial infiltration and destruction sought by western imperialists , which have distorted the essence of Bilad Al-Sham / The Levant.
